MVAO Elementary - Mapleton Center - Holds Reading Celebration

    The MVAO Elementary School's Mapleton Center students attended their first quarter Reading Celebration on October 28th.
    Mrs. Oberreuter shared with the students and staff about the many new books that the library gained during National Book Month. The third through fifth graders got to participate in a weekly challenge for the month and the final winners were announced during the assembly. Library and classroom reading awards were handed out.
    To finish up the afternoon, Mrs. Renner's fourth grade class split up and shared small Halloween readings with the classrooms.

MVAO Elementary - Anthon Center - Holds Reading Celebration

    The MVAO Elementary's Anthon Center students attended their first quarter Reading Celebration on Wednesday, October 29th.
    The fourth and fifth grade classes began the event with a very expressive reading of the story "Big Pumpkin." Mrs. Oberreuter recapped the library's October activities for Book Month and announced the final week's winners of the reading challenge. Library and classroom awards were handed out.
    As a final note, students were reminded that the book fair will be coming the first week of December and will be here during their elementary concert.

    The purpose of this report is to provide the Maple Valley-Anthon Oto Communities with information about the performance of our school district in the 2024-2025 school year. This report includes academic, financial, facility, attendance, and other data related to the 2024-2025 school year.

PROFILE DESIGNATIONS

    MVAO Elementary School received a COMMENDABLE DESIGNATION from the 2024-2025 Iowa School Performance Profile Index.
    MVAO Middle School received an ACCEPTABLE DESIGNATION from the 2024-2025 Iowa School Performance Profile Index.
    MVAOCOU High School received an ACCEPTABLE DESIGNATION from the 2024-2025 Iowa School Performance Profile Index.

MVAO STUDENT PROFICIENCY

    Student proficiency is defined by the number of students performing at the proficient level. Students designated at or above "proficient" demonstrate adequate competency over the knowledge, skills, and abilities that meet the requirements for their grade level. Adequate competency on such assessment represents one facto associated with academic readiness for college and career in the subject area.

CAREER AND TECHNICAL ENROLLMENT

    MVAOCOU High School offers four strands of Career and Technical Education programs: Agriculture, Business, Family and Consumer Science, and Industrial Technologies.
    During the 2024-2025 school year, there were a total of 158 students counted who successfully completed at least one class in our CTE programs.
    Of the total of 158 students who took at least one CTE class in 2024-2025, 85 were completed by male students and 73 were completed by female students.

    "Average Daily Attendance" reflects the average daily attendance rate of students across the school year. The calculation is based on the total number of days attended in school divided by the total number of days enrolled. Data comes from the 2024-2025 spring Student Reporting in Iowa (SRI) collection.
    Maple Valley-Anthon Oto K-12 students had a 93.87% average daily attendance rate in 2024-2025, which is .08% below the state average of 93.95%.

    "Attendance Growth" measures changes in chronic absenteeism from the previous year. This measure shows the percentage of students who were absent for more than 10 percent of school days for any reason.
    Maple Valley-Anthon Oto students who were deemed "chronically absent" during the 2023-2024 school year showed a 5.3% GROWTH in attendance during the 2024-2025 school year.

GRADUATION

    The 4-year graduation rate represents the percent of students who completed high school on-time within 4 years. The 5-year graduation rate shows the percent of students who needed an additional year to complete high school. The 4-year graduation rate shown is for the class of 2024, and the 5-year graduation rate is for the class of 2023.

    In the graduating class of 2025, 93.24% of the students who began their freshman year at MVAO or who joined the class after freshman year completed four years of English, and three years each of math, science, and social studies. 61 students graduated in the MVAOCOU Class of 2025. 61% of the graduating students in the MVAOCOU Class of 2025 participated in a work-based learning experience.

    Taxable Valuation refers to the total assessed value of property within the school district.
    Tax Rate shows the amount per thousand dollars of taxable property valuation that would be paid in school taxes.
    General Fund Maximum Authorized Budget represents the total amount of general fund dollars that the district was legally allowed to spend in the 2024-2025 school year. The district's annual general fund budget is driven by resident enrollment and the amount of per pupil allocations.
    General Fund Expenditures represents the total amount of money spent from the General Fund during the 2024-2025 school year.
    Unspent Balance refers to the ability to spend. This number is generated from state formulas as well and miscellaneous income and does not reflect cash. The Unspent Balance is the difference between the Maximum Authorized Budget and general fund expenditures.

FACILITIES AND EQUIPMENT

    During the 2024-2025 school year, the board of education's facilities committee reviews district facilities and equipment and develops a plan to address identified needs that were then recommended to the entire board for approval. Large projects identified and addressed during the 2024-2025 school year included:

?    New painting in the high school gymnasium
?    Additional cameras throughout district buildings for added security
?    New Heating and Cooling unit in the high school
?    Purchase of a new 12-passenger van
?    Windscreens for our high school track and updates to sound systems throughout the athletic facilities of the high school

CURRENT DEBT

    Maple Valley-Anthon Oto Community School currently carries no debt on any property or equipment. The bond issue that funded the construction of the high school in Mapleton was retired at the end of Fiscal Year 2022

ENROLLMENT

    The chart below displays information related to the enrollment health at Maple Valley-Anthon Oto. There are four different metrics that are considered related to enrollment health. The data in the charts reflect October 1st of each school year which is the date specified by the Department of Education for official student enrollment.
    Certified Enrollment is the number of resident students in the district and includes students who attend MVAO, students who open enroll, and home-school students who attend part-time. Certified enrollment is the main driver of school budgets.
    Served enrollment is the number of students, residents, open enrolled in, whole grade shared in, and tuition in, who physically attend school at Maple Valley-Anthon Oto.
Open Enrolled Out is the number of students who are residents of MVAO but choose to attend another school or who move into the district and choose to remain attending school in the district from where they moved.
    Open Enrolled In, Tuition In, Whole Grade Shared is the number of students who are residents of another school district, but who attend MVAO.
    Students Receiving ESA's represent the number of resident Students receiving Educational Savings accounts to attend private schools.
